The Ammonite Galaxy is situated far, far away from our own Milky Way Galaxy. We can't even see it; at least the Hubble telescope can, but not much else. Inside the galaxy is a particular configuration which has allowed intelligent life to survive. It is made up of three planets, but since one of the planets is a failed star - the locals refer to it as Nomus - the inhabitants of the system describe their particular home as 'The binary system'.

The following photo, from the Hubble Telescope, is incredible. These are the furthest galaxies, and in this one composite there are over 10,000 galaxies and we are seeing them as they were 13 billion years ago. Incredible.

the Ultra deep field

Well, the Ammonite Galaxy is just another galaxy in a universe teeming with them. It is a spiral galaxy, not unlike the foreground one visible shining in gold in the bottom right-hand corner.

It turns out that the various inhabitants of the binary system are not completely alone in their galaxy. It is not exactly teeming with life, either; out of the hundreds of millions of stars, only a very few have allowed life to form, and outside the binary system, none of this life is similar to the various races which evolved there.

And for the rest ... please start at Valhai!
